In his current exhibition, the artist deals with the amalgamation of human beings with butterflies and trees.
The figure and character of the new creatures that Lior brings to life originated in the duality of the artist's life in recent years, through his attempts to merge root-like stability with his own boundless freedom.
Lior's frequent travel and globetrotting is represented as winged humanoids resembling fluttering butterflies. The dichotomy of Lior's own yearning for solid roots despite his nomadic lifestyle is represented by the personification of trees, depicting the human body as a stem from which real roots grow.
The duality of Lior's work and, subsequently, his soul is emphasized even more as the observer looks at the pieces. Are these men with wings, or are they butterflies in human form? Are these men who have grown into trees or are they trees that dance and move as men?
"In Situ" seems to suggest strict natural order, only to have that order deconstructed. Indeed, "In his own image God created them"; but this time a different creator has made them, in his own image, in their natural place according to the artist's own order.
Using his unique talent and remarkable control over the glass medium , Lior sculpts impressive miniatures and striking murals with vivid colors that captivate the observer with their narrative.
Lior lives and creates in Cyprus, Italy and England. He was exposed for the first time to the torching technique by the artist Alex Arbel and has been mentored by the glass grandmaster Lucio Bubacco.
